The CCL league leaders ended hopes of the Reds retaining the league Cup.

Walton & Hersham 2 Redhill 0 - Tuesday, 8th March 2022

Holders Redhill exited the Combined Counties League's Premier Challenge Cup at the quarter-final stage after losing 2-0 to Walton & Hersham at Waterside Drive on Tuesday night. The Lobsters had won last season's Final against Ascot United on penalties after a 0-0 draw at Cobham's ground but the Swans, currently topping the Premier South table, proved to be too strong for them for the third time this season having already achieved home and away wins in the league.

But Redhill made a bright start this time. In the first five minutes home 'keeper Liam Allen dropped a cross behind him that went for a corner and Jack Knight had two chances to poke the ball home from close range but couldn't quite make the right connection. For 20 minutes or so play was fairly even before Walton started to look more menacing with quick balls into the front players. Ben Krauhaus's left-foot volley flashed wide before Eddie Simon's powerful right-footer from the edge of the box sped past Jack Minchin on 33 minutes for a deserved opener for the home side.

Close to half-time Tom Drinkwater beat Allen to skipper Jack Wadmore's free-kick aimed towards the far post but glanced his header inches wide. The Lobsters were still very much in the contest, a Lucas Atkins effort missing by a yard, until a superb strike from wide on the left by Simon on 59 minutes flew well out of Minchin's reach and into the far top corner for 2-0. There were a lot of passes back to the 'keeper after that as the Swans comfortably held on for a victory that took them into the last four.

Redhill: Minchin, Edwards, Kenlock (Stone) (McCarthy), Wadmore, Drinkwater, McNamee, Kaate, Diallo (Jarrett), Knight (Peacock), Atkins, Brissett
