Redhill 3 Camberley Town 1

Paul Barnes' Redhill started their Premier South campaign in fine style with a big three points against Camberley Town at the Brow.

The temperature was measured at 34C at kick-off, making it possibly the hottest ever Redhill match. There were scheduled drinks breaks after 17 and 35 minutes in a first half in which both sides struggled to create chances. But a Jason Kaate header in the final minute had Krooners 'keeper Cawdron at full stretch and that might have been a hint that things were going to be different in the second half.

They certainly were with the Reds soon buzzing around the Camberley goal. Jake Baxter, our new centre-forward who won the FA Vase with Chertsey three years ago, put Kaate through and Cawdron did well to turn his firm shot away. There were corners and free-kicks and a number of worthy Redhill efforts were blocked before Yannick Monga broke the deadlock on 56 minutes, the midfielder firing the Lobsters in front with a low right-footer from just inside the box.

More Redhill goals seemed inevitable but it was Camberley who scored next, Barrow avoiding a double challenge from Stone and McNamee on the right before running on to shoot into the far corner eight minutes from time. But the Lobsters' response was almost immediate, Baxter making it 2-1 on his debut as he slipped through a gap in the visitors' defence. Then Max Oldham clinched the win with a third in added time, his pace taking him clear on the left and his shot from a difficult angle soaring high into the net.
