Lobsters succumb to dominant Farnham

Farnham Town 3 Redhill 0 - Tuesday, 19th March 2024

Farnham Town had won every home game in the Premier South this season, so for Redhill to get any kind of result at the Memorial Ground on Tuesday night would have been a very big ask.

The home side dominated possession from the start but for nearly half an hour failed to create clear-cut chances on a pitch that was wet and slippery in parts. Then Lewis Flatman's free-kick from the left was flicked over the bar by Mark Waters from close in.

Midfielder Harry Cooksley had an unplayable few minutes - from the 36th to the 42nd - during which he rifled a left-footer into the bottom left corner for the opener and then was upended for a penalty that Owen Dean converted for 2-0, sending Redhill 'keeper Luke Roberts the wrong way.

Little had been seen of the Lobsters as an attacking force in that first half, Ethan Ford managing their first decent shot in added time. The confident hosts were constantly looking to increase their lead in the second period and Dean made it 3-0 on 64 minutes from Dean Rule's clever pull-back.

Two minutes later Ben Dyson received a second yellow card for a rash challenge and Redhill's ten men did well to keep a clean sheet after that, though both Adam Liddle and Max Meaton were unlucky with efforts that thudded against the woodwork. Farnham can now clinch the title against Jersey Bulls on Saturday if other results go their way.
