Lobsters dominant at The Spectrum

Guildford City 1 Redhill 4 - Saturday, 11th November 2023

Adam Grant became the first Redhill player to score a hat-trick this season as the Lobsters won 4-1 at Guildford City on Saturday to move back into the top six in the Premier South. But there were other Redhill heroes too, including new signing Tommy Smith who was commanding at centre-back and 17-year-old debutant 'keeper Freddie Leather whose early full-stretch save from City's Mike Coppinger was so important.

Guildford have had some disappointing results recently, conceding six against both Farnham and Knaphill. but their defence managed to keep an enterprising Lobsters attack at bay until the 40th minute. Then Smith headed the ball across following a corner and Grant nodded home from barely a yard out. In the last seconds of the half the Redhill striker was again in the right place to head in from Fin Roberts' right-wing cross.

Six minutes into the second half Grant took the ball round 'keeper Mac Chisholm for a composed finish that took his tally to eight for the season and made it 3-0 to the Lobsters. But the visitors weren't home and dry, Kai Beck pulling a goal back and City for a spell threatening to reduce the arrears even further. Then Roberts, wide on the right, received an astute pass from the industrious Andrew Demby before cutting inside to fire a superb left-footer into the far top corner. There was no way that Guildford were going to come back from 4-1.
