Magic and Knight trebles help Lobsters to massive win in cup.

Report - David Barber

Deportivo Galicia 1 Redhill 10 - Tuesday, 7th December 2021

Redhill began their defence of the Premier Challenge Cup won so memorably in May with a 10-1 thrashing of Deportivo Galicia at Bedfont Sports' ground last night. Jack Knight and Jamarie Brissett both netted hat-tricks as the Lobsters came close to equalling the biggest win in their history, a 12-0 victory away to Epsom Athletic in 2017.

Deportivo, ninth in Division One but with only four defeats in their 16 matches, endured a wretched evening in which they not only shipped ten goals but also had two players sent off. One went for a professional foul on Knight in first-half stoppage time and the other for two yellows on 71 minutes.

Knight has now notched seven goals in seven appearances and he quickly opened his account last night, leaping in front of a hesitant 'keeper to head home from a free-kick in the second minute. Then Joe Jarrett and Billy Frost respectively provided the passes to set Knight up for thumping right-footers into the bottom corner on 13 and 19 minutes to give Redhill a commanding 3-0 lead.

"Magic" Jamarie Brissett, our new signing who can count Tooting and Whyteleafe amongst his previous clubs, then took centre stage in only his second game for the Reds. Jack Wadmore's slide-rule pass sent him away down the right on 22 minutes and after avoiding the onrushing 'keeper's lunge at his feet he managed to shoot just inside the far post from an almost impossible angle.

An astute pass inside the left-back by Frost on 37 minutes put him in the clear again and he slid the ball past the 'keeper for another composed finish. So the Lobsters were 5-0 up at the break but the goals kept coming. Brissett completed his hat-trick with a chip that went in off the far post five minutes into the second half and Noe Vendrells (68 minutes), Danyaal Iqbal (73), Frost (77) and Nathan Hogan (79) completed the rout.

The Reds travel to either Egham Town or Tadley Calleva in the Third Round, determined to keep their hands on that trophy.

Redhill: Minchin, Upton, Mackenzie, Wadmore, Drinkwater (King), Dyett, Brissett (Vendrells), Jarrett (Huckle), Knight (Hogan), Frost, Iqbal
