A season which had begun inauspiciously with five defeats in the Premier Division under a previous manager ended in glory on a warm Saturday afternoon in Anvil Lane as Harrison Williams' Redhill won the Premier Challenge Cup Final against top-six side Ascot United.

A crowd estimated at over 300 saw a cagey opening in which the only efforts of note were two shots from Nathan Hogan on the left which hardly troubled Ascot 'keeper Gray. Soon the game would suddenly burst into life with two Hogan free-kicks on 25 and 29 minutes. The first smacked against a post, Aiden Brown being just unable to turn in the rebound, and a flying Gray spectacularly tipped round the second. Then Noe Vendrells, playing on the right flank, was unbelievably unlucky with two close-range flicks within about three seconds which Gray somehow managed to block on the line.

Arlie Talboys and skipper Sam King, later winner of the "Man of the Match" award, went close in the second half and Brown was surprisingly booked for simulation after being bundled over by a chasing pack of defenders inside the box. In the last couple of minutes Hogan blasted over on the run and Derick Hayford slid in a shot from Danyaal Iqbal's inviting pull-back which looked a certain goal but hit their right-back. At the other end Jack Minchin was in inspired form again despite receiving a buffeting at numerous corners and some long throw-ins to the far post by one of the Ascot defenders.

So after a goalless 90 minutes it went to a shootout as if there hadn't been enough drama already. Redhill's "penalty kings" - they converted four out of four in nerveless fashion - were Josh Phillips, Ryan Healy, Jack Wadmore and Derick Hayford. Minchin saved Ascot's second and their fourth sailed over the bar. Sam King collected the trophy and the bouncing Lobsters were left to celebrate their first success in a Cup Final for 22 years.
