Guildford City 0 Redhill 2 - Saturday, 2nd April 2022

Paul Barnes' Lobsters are still on course for a top-six finish after a comfortable 2-0 win at Guildford City on Saturday. On a freezing afternoon at The Spectrum, with rain and sleet early on, goals by Jason Kaate and Derrick Hayford had the points in the bag by half-time.

Guildford is where Redhill once won a Cup Final before a crowd of 4,500. The present-day Guildford City, known as "The Sweeney", are going through a difficult period after manager Nikki Bull and most of the first team left the club. But in truth the Reds barely troubled their new young side before netting twice in the last seven minutes of the first half.

Referee Atkinson inadvertently contributed to our opening goal, allowing play to continue after a foul on Dan Stone near the halfway line. The left-back's kick upfield as he was tackled put Kaate in the clear. Two defenders rushed back to challenge but our clever striker - now on five goals in seven starts - used them as a screen to fire past home 'keeper Jack Coleman.

In the final minute of the half Derrick Hayford advanced with the ball in midfield and, as it opened up in front of him, tried his luck with a low right-footer from about 25 yards. It wasn't particularly powerful but was accurate enough to creep just inside the right-hand post. Jamarie Brissett was as lively as usual as a substitute in a largely forgettable second half but the game had effectively been over at 2-0.

Redhill: Minchin, Edwards, Stone (Brissett), Wadmore, Drinkwater, Dyett, Hayford (McNamee), Jarrett (McCarthy), Kaate, Monga, Kenlock
