Horley Town 1 Redhill 2 - Monday, 29th August 2022

This was a local derby with a breathless finale.

Redhill maintained their encouraging start to the season with a 2-1 win against local rivals Horley Town at The New Defence on Bank Holiday Monday. With ten points in the bag after four matches, three of them away, the Lobsters have moved into the top four in the Premier South table.

This was a local derby with a breathless finale. Three minutes from the end of normal time the teams were still locked at 0-0, both of them wondering what they had to do to score after enterprising approach play had set up countless chances.

Then there was a scramble in the six-yard box following Max Oldham's right-wing corner, Yahaya Kamara's fierce shot was blocked and Jason Kaate had just enough room to lift the ball high into the net. But the contest was by no means over with several minutes of added time to come.

A minute into that extra period another Kaate shot was deflected behind by a home defender knowing little about it and seconds after that Kaate cut inside the last man and was clipped as he went past to prompt referee Douglas to point to the spot. Kaate calmly rolled home the penalty for 2-0 but there was still time for Horley's Sam Remfry to rifle in a free-kick.

Redhill had endured a difficult first half in which captain and defensive kingpin Antonio Simeone was forced off injured after making a brave block. The Reds went on to show some dazzling wing-play in the second period and Kaate continued to take up excellent positions near the hosts' goal before finally getting his reward.
