We look ahead to tomorrow's FA Vase clash with Snodland Town.

Article - David Barber (club historian)

Redhill are on the Wembley trail on Saturday (3pm) with an FA Vase First Round Qualifying tie against Snodland Town at Kiln Brow, the Lobsters' home ground just south of the town on the main London to Brighton road.

What are Redhill's chances of appearing in a showpiece Final under the famous Wembley arch next May? The club has twice reached the Fourth Round Proper stage of this prestigious national competition. In 1977 we held Billericay, the eventual Vase winners, to a 0-0 draw at the Memorial Sports Ground before losing the replay 3-1 at Billericay. Five years later we went down 2-1 at Hemel Hempstead at the same stage.

In last season's Vase the Lobsters edged Bagshot 4-3 at the Brow and then won 2-1 at Mile Oak down in Sussex before our ten men crashed out of the competition 3-1 in the Second Round Proper on a torrid afternoon at Hellenic League Binfield.

Snodland is a small town in the borough of Tonbridge and Malling in Kent. Football has been played there for more than a hundred years but it was only fairly recently in 2012 that all the main adult and youth teams in the town were amalgamated under one club name - Snodland Town. They play in the Southern Counties East League Division 1, one level below Redhill at "Step 6", and started the current season with a 1-1 home draw against Lewisham Borough and a 2-1 home win against Forest Hill Park.

For Barry Wilde's Redhill, disappointingly without a point after their two opening Combined Counties League fixtures, Saturday's Vase tie affords a welcome opportunity to get back to winning ways.
