Badshot Lea won in the final seconds at Kiln Brow, as the Lobsters suffered four straight league defeats.

Redhill 1 Badshot Lea 2 - Saturday, 23rd April 2022

Redhill were seconds away from earning a creditable 1-1 draw at the Brow on Saturday against Badshot Lea, one of the teams above them, in their final match of a season full of good memories. Then Danilo Cadete burst through to score the winner for the Baggies four minutes into stoppage time to inflict on the Lobsters their fourth consecutive defeat in the Premier South.

The Reds, who would finish in the top six whatever the result, had two early chances on a sunny April afternoon. Lucas Atkins and Derick Hayford both had worthy efforts blocked while at the other end Jack Minchin made a superb one-handed save at full stretch to deny Malachi Thomas and ensure that the first 30 minutes were goalless. Then Baggies veteran Nic Ciardini poked home following a long free-kick before Atkins kept calm in the box to slam in a deflected leveller for the Lobsters seven minutes before the break.

There were chances at both ends in the second half. Substitute Jamarie Brissett looked dangerous whenever he had the ball out on the left but he found Baggies 'keeper Craig Bradshaw in top form and Jason Kaate slipped with the goal at his mercy near the end. The visitors' own sustained attacks finally paid off as Cadete ran through unchallenged to fire past the advancing Minchin and into the far corner. He barely had time to remove his shirt, for which he was booked, before referee Osofa blew the whistle for time.

As a famous French philosopher once said (in French presumably): "In football everything is complicated by the presence of an opposing team".

Redhill: Minchin, Copeland, Edwards (Mitchell), McCarthy (Lowe), Drinkwater, Dyett, Hayford, Jarrett, Kaate, Atkins (Watson), Monga (Brissett) (Brewer)
