Dave Cousin’s Redhill Reserves travelled to Banstead on Tuesday evening for this Intermediate Cup clash against Banstead Athletic who play their league football in the Combined Counties Div 1. Cousins along with Mike Maher included a mixture of first team squad players, reserve/youth players and Academy players for this attractive and entertaining fixture.
The game started with Redhill moving the ball around well and looking dangerous but on 35 minutes against the run of play the home side broke away and a low cross was turned in for 1-0 to Banstead. As the second half got underway Redhill seemed to completely dominate but failed to capitalise on their superior play and it was no surprise when Athletic broke away once more took advantage of a Redhill defensive error and grabbed a 2-0 advantage on 75 minutes.
Sam Robinson pulled a goal back on 80 minutes and most were hoping for an equaliser and extra time but nobody had anticipated the events of the final few minutes as first Chris Gregson grabbed an equaliser before another Redhill attempt struck the bar before Matt Robinson put the Reds in the lead and with just seconds left young Leyton Regan snatched the fourth for an outstanding result.
