Badshot come from behind to deny the Lobsters.

Badshot Lea 2 Redhill 2 - Saturday, 27th November 2021

Redhill held Badshot Lea, who were two points off top spot in the Premier Division South, to a 2-2 draw yesterday. But after leading 2-0 at one stage the Lobsters will have been a little disappointed to come away from a bitterly cold Westfield Lane with just one point.

The Baggies surged forward in the opening minutes with that Arctic wind behind them and livewire striker Dean Rule, who has represented England Schoolboys, showed some impressive dribbling skills. A couple of shots whizzed over Jack Minchin's crossbar before Redhill went ahead, arguably against the run of play, on 15 minutes. Nathan Hogan's free-kick looked to be drifting beyond the far post but a diving Jack Knight managed to head the ball back into the middle and Matt Mackenzie thumped it into the net from right in front of the goal.

Now playing with great confidence, the Reds looked to build on their lead towards half-time. Noe Vendrells played Hogan in for a one-on-one with home 'keeper Lunn who rushed out to block his effort. A curling Vendrells shot from the right, apparently destined for the far top corner, was tipped over and the overworked Lunn then had to turn away a left-footer from Knight after the energetic frontman had breezed past three challenges. It was still 1-0 at the break but the visitors doubled their advantage two minutes into the second period, Nathaniel Kenlock's pass being diverted by a defender into the path of Knight who had time to pick his spot.

A Baggies onslaught was inevitable and Billy Murphy and Joe Jarrett were brought on to stiffen up the midfield. Both of the home side's goals, scored after 65 and 81 minutes, owed something to the swirling wind. Minchin struggled to deal with the ball's trajectory from free-kicks out on the right and Hedley and skipper Upton found the net in the mayhem that followed. It could have been worse for the Reds as a Rule shot thudded against the right-hand post close to the end.

Redhill: Minchin, Mackenzie, Kenlock, Huckle, Drinkwater, Dyett, Vendrells (Iqbal), Frost (Murphy), Knight, King, Hogan (Jarrett)
